Reflective Journal #1

I decided to try and free-write about my experience with writing and after going over my notes, I have come to the conclusion that I feel very insecure about it… I remember in middle school I used to rest my arm on my paper while I wrote, hoping my teacher wouldn’t be able to read my work before I handed it in. Let’s just say, I don’t have much confidence when it comes to writing. My imagination isn't the problem here, I have so many ideas and I feel passionate about so many different topics, I seem to find inspiration nearly everywhere. That might be the problem ! I feel overwhelmed with all the thoughts that go through my mind everyday hence, the notebook. When I’m preparing to write, the thoughts multiply and I don’t know where to begin. For instance, I am always able to answer my pre-writing questions, “What is my purpose in this paper?”, “Who is my audience?”, etc… How I begin talking to my “audience” about my “purpose” is what I struggle with.

To be a “good writer” you must possess a number of qualities; you must have interesting and important ideas, “smooth” sentences, logical organization, and use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation. So far, the only thing I’ve got going for me is interesting ideas… and my opinion is pretty biased, might I add !
